Selectmen table Brasas Meat Market outdoor seating request pending inspections and landlord sign-off

Pedro Mendes, owner of Brasas Meat Market at 1118 County Street, requested a Common Victualler license to add outdoor seating consisting of three removable tables, saying he expects about 5% of customers would use the seating.
Selectmen questioned safety and operations: Chairman Allen Smith said he was concerned the umbrellas could blow into traffic on Route 138 and that patrons from the nearby Mallard might spill over to the seating after that business closes. Deputy Fire Chief Jason Phillips and Building Commissioner James Aguiar had submitted recommendations for the Board to consider. Mendes told the Board, "I did not realize I needed permission from the Board prior to putting the tables out," and said the tables are removable and would be brought inside daily at closing.
Selectman Joe Bednarik noted that outdoor seating could help revitalize downtown and asked that safety issues be addressed. Selectman Todd Costa said he was not opposed but wanted the Building Inspector's final approval. The Board decided to table the request and place it on the next agenda pending a letter from the landlord and final sign-off by the Building Inspector. No formal approval was granted at the June 4 meeting.
