Appeals office: 385 appeals filed; 88 active cases remain

Jones County staff gave an appeals update at the Aug. 6 meeting, reporting workload and outcomes from recent processing. Staff said, "We have had 385 appeals filed with the office. 252 of those appeals, we are sending 30 day notices. 51 appeals will be forwarded to the board of equalization. Right now, we have only 88 active appeals that haven't been worked, out of the 385. Out of the 385, 84 have filed for homestead. So that's no value in dispute... and 5 have filed for CUVA."
Staff credited field work and remeasurements for keeping outstanding appeals low, saying a staff member (Bill) "has been working his tail off, going out in the field and remeasuring things." Staff also said that total value adjustments from appeals so far "has only decreased by, like, point 3%," indicating that the net valuation change from appeal resolutions to date has been small.
