Neighbors press Lakeway commission to protect pedestrians, question traffic analysis for Texaco project

Gaye Benordan, who walks the corner frequently, told the commission she doubts the traffic study’s finding and urged a "deep dive into the traffic analysis," noting the nearby elementary school and the fire station. Shukran, speaking for the owner of Lakeway Market, and Angela Sloop, a market employee, also warned that additional customer and delivery trips could create hazards for children on e-bikes and complicate emergency access. Diane Crumley, who said she has lived in the area since 1965, said the existing station has been a good neighbor and that intensified operations would create a "big traffic mess."
Speakers requested specific conditions such as limits on operating hours, stricter lighting color and glare limits, and careful placement of loading zones to avoid blocking circulation. The commission acknowledged the concerns and requested a more detailed traffic analysis focused on pedestrian patterns near the school before final engineering review.
