Superintendent Brian Rentsch told the board that, based on the financial forecast, buildings-and-grounds findings and the capital plan, the district needs to explore options to save money and possibly consolidate buildings.
Mrs. Host, Ms. Campbell and Mrs. Grandison agreed that the district should develop multiple contingencies — labeled in discussion as plans B and C and 1-, 3-, 5- and 7-year capital plans for each building. Mr. Rentsch said he will work with administrators to formulate options that could include a possible building closure, and present those options to the board for future consideration.
The board’s discussion framed the capital-plan work as preparatory; no formal motion on consolidation was made during the Feb. 9 meeting. The matter remains a direction for staff follow-up rather than an immediate decision.
