The mayor presented the council-approved $37,500,000 combined operating budget for 2026 and said the city kept its homestead tax rate at about $5.49 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The mayor said the budget was his most challenging to prepare because of substantial employee salary increases needed to remain competitive. He explained the total tax levy rose by $13,900,000 (a 4.8% increase over 2025), but much of that growth is absorbed by new construction added to the tax base and by a rising share of county sales tax revenue. "The city council passed a $37,500,000 combined operating budget for 2026, which was my most challenging budget as mayor due to substantial employee salary increases needed to stay competitive in hiring."
