Council advances parking and referral local laws to public hearing

City Attorney Christian Gates introduced two local laws the council moved to send to public hearing.
The first local law, titled in the code under 'parking, standing and stopping,' is primarily a parking update. It would formalize parking spaces at City Hall, reserve certain spaces for residential tenants under the sale and easement for the Maze Hook & Ladder property, prohibit multi-space parking (vehicles parked across painted lines), and codify an extended 60-foot no-parking zone on the north side of Main Street at the Fishkill Avenue intersection for improved sight lines and emergency access.
The second local law would modify procedural referrals to better match New York State practice and the city's intermunicipal agreement with Dutchess County. It narrows unnecessary county referrals for administrative zoning changes and aligns the city's timelines with state law while retaining planning-board review where applicable. Christian Gates said the changes are mostly procedural and not expected to have environmental impacts in themselves.
Council voted to schedule public hearings for both local laws at the next meeting on Feb. 17.
