Claymont board approves new 2026–27 start times and moves student year to end May 22, 2026

The Claymont City School District Board of Education on April 13 approved new student start and end times for the 2026–27 school year and advanced the 2025–26 student calendar so the last day of school will be May 22, 2026.
Following a discussion with Transportation and Cafeteria Supervisor Eric Henry about routing and after‑school activities, the board voted to set High School hours at 7:40–2:40, Middle School at 7:50–2:50, Elementary at 8:05–3:05 and Primary at 8:15–3:15. The instructional-time item was moved for separate consideration and the motion carried on roll call (all four members present voted yes).
The board also approved a revision to the 2025–26 school year calendar to end student attendance three days earlier than the version previously circulated, setting the last day as May 22, 2026. That calendar change was approved unanimously on roll call.
Board members said the schedule adjustments were intended to improve transportation logistics and support extracurricular schedules; the board did not adopt further changes to the school day length or instructional minutes beyond the bell-time shifts. The district will implement the new times for 2026–27 and monitor impacts on bussing and after-school programs.
