The board approved an RFP for a vape and safety-sensory system and discussed the Stop It anonymous-reporting app and associated partnerships that staff say will strengthen student-safety supports.
Ed-division staff reported on pilots of a restroom-sensor system (Veil/Halo) at Cypress and Loera, which staff said produced “tremendous declines in activity happening in the restroom” and called for sensitivity-calibration and consistent intervention protocols. On the Stop It app, district staff said the tool has been widely promoted through registration, site messaging and the district website; Director Adam Hernandez said that over the last 18 months the district has received roughly 800 Stop It submissions, 58 of which escalated to staff intervention.
Groundswell (formerly Orange County Human Relations) was described as offering two services: Bridges (student-led, trained advisors working on mental-health clubs) and restorative-justice specialists who support conflict mediation and community-building at sites. Trustees and staff emphasized integrating community partners with district counselors, social workers and community-school coordinators so services are coordinated rather than duplicative.
Trustees praised the quick escalation and response to serious Stop It reports; one trustee described a recent case in which a graduate used the app and the district responded within hours. The board approved related consent items and asked staff to share pilot results and calibration lessons as part of procurement work.
