Barker board sets $22.48 million budget for May 20 vote; Special Education and debt service drive increase

The Barker Central School District Board on April 10 approved forwarding a proposed 2025–26 budget of $22,475,710 to district voters as Proposition #1 on May 20, 2025.
District business official Mr. Carter said the proposed total represents an increase of $3,579,992 (18.95%) over the prior year and that "most of the increase is due to Special Education and Debt Service." He noted the district is using an estimated state-aid run to set revenue assumptions, is budgeting $992,000 from appropriated fund balance and expects building-aid offsets to reduce net debt-service impact.
The Board also approved the Tri-Component Budget Statement and the Property Tax Report Card contingent on budget adoption. Motions to accept the budget proposition and related documents carried unanimously (Yes: 6, No: 0).
