The Montville Township Zoning Board of Adjustment on July 1 approved application ZC19-25, allowing a roughly 800-square-foot second-story addition over an existing garage at 21 Morris Ave and granting a variance to retain an existing storage shed that had been ordered removed in a 1999 approval. The motion to approve the application and the variance to allow the shed to remain was made by Ibrahim Coklar and seconded by Rebecca Gomilla; the roll-call vote was recorded as yes — Gomilla, Shamsudin, Coklar, Daskaloski, Pisano, Kovalcik.
Thomas Dores, the project architect, told the board the proposed second floor would match the existing nonconforming rear-yard setback, and said the project would cause "no detriment to the neighborhood." Board engineer Jamie Giurintano confirmed there are no site improvements proposed and noted the shed had been a condition in the prior approval; board planner Joseph Burgis advised the board it could either remove the old condition or grant a variance to allow the structure to remain. Public comment was opened and closed with no speakers. The approval removes the earlier requirement to remove the shed and permits the addition to proceed under the approved variances.
