Murphy Drive slated for interim mill-and-overlay before full reconstruction; residents press for faster action
Summary
Staff explained a two-stage approach for Murphy Drive — an interim mill-and-overlay to preserve condition in the short term, followed by full reconstruction when funding is available — while residents urged quicker permanent repairs due to heavy commercial traffic and storm-drain problems.

Residents and board members raised concerns about Murphy Drive's condition and the timing of repairs.
A resident told the board "Murphy Drive from Cummings to to Harwood. We got a lot of commercial traffic because it's a t r a that's doing the construction on the towers and everything like that." Staff said vehicle stress and an underlying TRA main line and storm-drain separation have contributed to deterioration and confirmed more complete repairs will be required later.
Mara explained the two-step strategy: a maintenance mill-and-overlay in the near term to prevent dramatic deterioration, followed by a full reconstruction when funding and design permit. She said that approach preserves existing infrastructure and avoids needlessly ripping out recently maintained sections until a full reconstruction window opens (staff indicated major construction might occur around 2031 for some corridors). Residents pushed for clearer timelines; staff said the project list is flexible and staff will keep the corridor under review and update residents as design and funding solidify.
