Staff told the board that two intersection projects — at Harwood and at Martin Murphy/Central — qualified for TxDOT's HCIP safety grant, which the staff said will fund construction costs.
Mara said the grant covers construction and that the city would be responsible for design work, environmental clearances, and some overhead. "So all we would be responsible for is 400,000," she told the board when describing the city's anticipated local exposure for the two intersections. The upgrade scope includes ADA-compliant pedestrian amenities, flashing-yellow-arrow phasing and refreshed pavement.
Board members asked why those intersections were selected and whether others (Forest Ridge & Cummings) had been considered; staff said the consultant's safety scoring and qualifying criteria narrowed the HCIP-eligible list to the two intersections presented but confirmed Forest Ridge & Cummings remain under review for city-led improvements.
