Poulsbo staff demos Placer AI and seeks $20,000 LTAC subscription to measure event visitors
Summary
City staff demonstrated Placer AI, a geofencing analytics tool that showed 41,000 visits at a recent festival and the origin of visitors, and asked LTAC to consider a $20,000 first-year subscription to provide event organizers and staff with detailed visitation and demographic data.

Jeff, presenting on behalf of city staff, showed a demonstration of Placer AI and said the tool can geofence events and deliver hour-by-hour visitation counts, visitor origins and demographic breakdowns. "Here is the Viking Fest... just in these 3 days of the 17th through the 19th, 41,000 people came down and visited. Of those, 34,000 were from out of town," he said.
Jeff said the platform can filter by distance (for example, visitors over 50 miles away), estimate time spent in a geofenced area, and identify whether visitors are primarily residents, employees or out-of-town guests. He proposed LTAC fund the first-year subscription at $20,000 with a potential early-signup discount that would save about $4,000 if executed before January. Staff and committee members discussed offering the data to applicants who request it so organizers can better demonstrate "heads and beds" impact when applying for LTAC funds.
Lynn and other staff also described a complementary toolkit and an in-person workshop to teach event organizers how to use basic analytics and local resources; that toolkit is expected to be finalized by year-end. Committee members signaled interest but did not make a formal funding decision on the subscription during the call.
