Bettendorf proclaims August as Emergency Management Awareness Month; Scott County EMA promotes Aug. 30 fair

Mayor Robert Gallagher opened the Aug. 4 Bettendorf City Council meeting by reading a proclamation designating August as National Emergency Management Awareness Month and presented it to Scott County Emergency Management Agency deputy director Jody Freit.
"Now, therefore, I Robert Gallagher, the mayor of the city of Bettendorf, Iowa, do hereby proclaim the month of August as National Emergency Management Awareness Month in the Bettendorf community," Gallagher read as he delivered the proclamation and thanked emergency managers for their work.
Jody Freit accepted the proclamation and briefly described the commission's outreach plans, identifying Aug. 30 as the date of the fourth annual Emergency Response Fair in Bettendorf. "It's a great fair on August 30," Freit said, and invited Quad Cities residents to learn about preparedness, see equipment and get hands-on demonstrations.
The mayor and staff highlighted local emergency-management partnerships and recommended the public use the fair to learn about preparedness, response and mitigation. City officials said the recognition underscores ongoing collaboration with county and regional public-safety partners.
Looking ahead, Freit encouraged residents to attend the Waterfront Convention Center event for demonstrations ranging from CPR instruction to displays of emergency apparatus; city staff said they would share event details on the city's website.
