Officials told the council that annexation and growth mean the city will provide services regardless of current boundary lines, increasing calls on police and fire resources.
Speaker 3 (Police chief, functional label) said, "For me, for the police department, I think whether they are inside our corporate boundaries or not, they're gonna utilize our roads. They're gonna utilize our services." He argued the city would end up servicing those residents while not necessarily capturing tax revenue to cover those costs.
Paul (Speaker 5) speaking from a fire perspective said the department already serves the area and emphasized response times and low staffing levels: "For me, personally, this is a huge win, because it would help, you know, generate some funds for those police officers, firefighters, that we're gonna need in the future." Councilors noted these service demands when weighing financing options for sewer infrastructure.
