Mayor warns of tight water supply after council reviews last year’s usage

During the mayor’s report the city’s secondary water statistics for the prior year were presented and the mayor warned Huntington may face restrictions if moisture supply does not improve.
The mayor reported last year’s secondary water use totaled about 862 acre-feet, with 691 secondary water connections and an average usage of about 1.25 acre-feet per connection; irrigated acreage was listed at 545 with an average use of 1.58 acre-feet per acre. He cautioned that reservoir and mountain conditions suggest the city could start the year with water restrictions if significant precipitation does not arrive: "our water is short... we might be, like, second starting out on, water restrictions," he said. The mayor urged residents to watch for possible restrictions and to comply with city guidance.
The mayor also thanked city employees for seasonal work (e.g., decorations) and previewed maintenance items, including an insurance-covered replacement for a damaged slide at the rodeo grounds expected within a few months.
