Council adopts resolution to update 2026 water and sewer rates after state-mandated fee increase

Huntington’s City Council adopted Resolution 4-20-26 on Dec. 17 to amend water and sewer rates for 2026 after a public hearing prompted by an external fee increase from the Castle Valley special service district.
A city staff member told the council the special service district will increase the fees it bills the city, producing a residential impact the staff described in the hearing as roughly $1.60 in the first year for residential customers and smaller changes for out-of-town and outer-district rates. The staff member said the city will ‘‘not do our increase this year because it’s quite substantial that special service is doing.’’ The mayor reiterated that ‘‘this actually come down from the state.’’ Councilmembers moved, seconded and voted to adopt the resolution.
The resolution formalizes the council’s decision to adjust the city’s schedule to accommodate the externally driven rise in costs while delaying Huntington’s routine annual increase to reduce the immediate burden on residents. The council discussed tracking the special service district’s changes and considering further adjustments next year when additional per-unit increases are scheduled to take effect.
