The Huntington City Council on Oct. 15 discussed a resident's request to temporarily place a used single‑wide trailer on a lot while rebuilding a damaged home and agreed to send the matter to planning and zoning for detailed review.
Mayor Leonard Norton and multiple councilmembers raised concerns that allowing a temporary placement could set a precedent. Norton said, “If we can have a guarantee that it'll only be there for 12 months, then I would say we'll be okay.” Planning and zoning staff described the unit as “12 by 70” and said the resident planned to winterize it and finish reconstruction within about a year. Councilmembers pointed to ambiguity in the city code about temporary replacement units and emphasized the need for enforceable, written limits rather than informal assurances. The council voted to remove the item from the council agenda and asked staff and planning and zoning to locate the controlling ordinance language and return with a formal recommendation.
