Lyon County authorizes geotechnical and steel-decking bids, approves engineers’ travel to national conference

The Lyon County Commission on Nov. 6 authorized the Highway Department to solicit geotechnical engineering services for four county bridge locations and directed staff to issue a Notice to Vendors for steel bridge decking bids per the County Engineer’s specifications. The motions passed unanimously (3-0).
Lyon County Engineer Wayne Scritchfield told commissioners the county plans to seek bids to support bridge design and repair work and requested permission to share travel costs so he and Jim Brull may attend the National Association of County Engineers (NACE) annual conference in Arlington, Texas, April 12–15, 2026. The minutes record that the Kansas County Highway Association (KCHA) will contribute $1,500 per attendee and the county authorized travel expenses not to exceed $5,000 to be paid from Road and Bridge fund 011-00-7420 – Travel. Commissioners approved the motions (motions recorded as Peck/Bartel 3-0; Bartel/Duft 3-0 where noted).
