Norco marks Red Ribbon Week; students present history and county poster contest

Mayor Greg Newton read a proclamation declaring October 2025 Red Ribbon Week and affirmed the city’s partnership with the Corona-Norco Unified School District on drug-use prevention and related activities.
Carol, the CNUSD advisor, introduced two students who described the Red Ribbon Campaign’s origin and the student poster contest. Tarini Saram recounted the campaign’s origin after the 1985 murder of DEA agent Enrique Camarena and said the movement grew from community coalitions; "I'm only 1 person, he told her, but I want to make a difference," she said recounting Camarena's conviction to public service. Jessica Shee described the local poster contest process and noted that entries across Riverside County are narrowed in district and county rounds and that winners’ artwork is compiled into a calendar distributed countywide.
Carol and school representatives noted that the district had strong recent success in the county contest and that Corona-Norco has the contest calendar cover this year. The council thanked the students and took a photograph following the proclamation.
