Dr. Ruchi Cotter, who introduced the event, described Convivencia as a nonreligious civic observance that promotes fellowship between faith traditions. "Last year, our theme was love thy neighbor. This year the theme is 'blessed are the peacemakers,'" Dr. Cotter said, and she outlined three awards — honoring peacemaking in policing, championing services to vulnerable populations, and recognizing hospitality and kindness — to be presented at this year’s celebration.
Supervisors praised the initiative: Supervisor Gibson called Convivencia "a celebration of our common humanity," and several board members accepted invitations to attend. The board’s recognition formalizes Aug. 15 as a day of community observance and signals ongoing county support for interfaith engagement.
