Caney mayor and police chief report on nuisance yards, hiring and grants

Mayor Joshua D. Elliott reported that Public Works and Code Enforcement are working on nuisance yards, addressed a social-media post showing a Public Works crew member airing car tires on lunch break, and said free swims have seen record attendance. He also noted a structure at 410 S. State will be coming down.
Police Chief Ike Dye said he had submitted another grant application and expected to submit an additional application in the next week or two. He said a conditional offer was extended to fill a vacant police position and that the department is looking for housing in town; he also noted the next round of condemnations would be coming to council.
City Administrator Andrea Sibley and City Clerk Adam Lanter described cross-training in the front office in light of the City Clerk departure; Utility Clerk Jalissa Jones said she is marketing land bank properties.
