Caney eliminates water account deposit, sets $30 start fee

On July 20 the Caney City Council approved eliminating the water deposit requirement for new city water accounts and replacing it with a $30 start fee.
Staff explained that money held in deposit accounts was not earning sufficient interest to cover payouts to deposit holders, prompting the recommendation to move to a fixed $30 start fee. Council President Jeff Culver moved the measure, seconded by Council Member Becky Dye, and the motion carried 4-0.
The change will alter the customer-startup cost for new accounts; staff will implement updated billing procedures accordingly.
