The City Council voted July 20 to approve a memorandum of understanding among the City of Caney, Copperhead Controls, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Kansas State Historic Preservation Officer to facilitate renovation work at 219 W. Fourth Ave.
Melissa Lyons, representing Copperhead Controls, said the updated MOU would allow the company to remove certain historical features of the property, with a mural planned to record those details. Staff explained the city handles drawdowns on Copperhead Controls’ behalf and that invoices and project plans are reviewed to ensure accuracy. Council Member Elizabeth Burch asked how an election of 'Justin' would affect the grant; Mayor Elliott said he would have to abstain from related discussion and voting if a conflict existed.
A motion to approve the MOU passed 4-0. Council requested status updates as the project progresses.
