Caney approves time extension and contract change for CDBG Housing Revitalization grant
Summary
Council approved a final time extension and a related SCKEDD contract change for the CDBG Housing Revitalization grant; staff said the extension is needed to finish remaining houses and that the City cannot reapply until the grant is closed, likely delaying reapplication until late 2027–2028.

Caney City Council on July 20 approved a time extension for the CDBG Housing Revitalization grant and a linked Contract Change Order 3 for SCKEDD to manage the extended work.
Staff said the 2026 round of awards arrived late and that high turnout meant the city used available funds; Commerce approval is required at several steps and has delayed progress. Staff and SCKEDD indicated this should be the final extension but noted SCKEDD would charge an additional fee tied to the longer schedule. Council approved both the time extension and the contract change order by 4-0 votes.
Staff advised the council that the city cannot submit a new application until the current grant is fully closed out and estimated the next application would be in late 2027 or 2028.
