The Recreation Commission continued its discussion of a draft agreement meant to govern youth leagues that use city‑owned fields, the chair said at the meeting.
"We really only have 1 thing on the agenda tonight and that's to, continue our discussion on oversight of the youth leagues in our city," the Chair said, introducing a three‑page draft that lists expectations for registration, elections, background checks, facility use and a code of conduct. The draft names the Amsterdam youth soccer club and Amsterdam youth baseball and anticipates adding youth football and softball programs that use city fields.
The commission said the agreement will require leagues that use city property to sign and follow the document to retain access. Participants focused on clarifying which fields and auxiliary facilities (concession stands, sheds) each league is allowed to use and on drafting site‑specific language rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all rule. Committee members urged the draft be explicit about responsibilities for maintenance, storage and trash removal for each named park.
Next steps: staff will circulate an updated version of the agreement within a week and add unresolved items — notably AED training and trash logistics — to the commission's next agenda for further detail and possible budgetary direction.
