Summer reading surges as staff note rise in unhoused visitors

City Librarian Jennifer said the summer reading program began the previous day and described heavy participation across programs; she announced a library sleepover scheduled for June 21 that already had 30 children signed up and urged parents to accompany attendees.
Jennifer also said the branch has seen an increase in unhoused people in and around the building, including new faces not previously seen by staff. She said the board and staff will review other libraries' approaches and consider policy refinements to address behavior and service needs without singling out individuals.
