The Carver County Board voted to contract with Knutson Construction to provide construction manager‑at‑risk (CMAR) services for the county government center project and approved $75,000 to cover preconstruction services.
County staff summarized the procurement: the RFQ attracted eight firms, three were interviewed, and the review committee recommended Knutson Construction as the best fit based on responsiveness, capability, service scope, references and cost. "So with that, mister chair, I'm seeking a motion to enter the contract with Knutson Construction for construction management at risk services to the government center project pending finalization of the contract review process and approved $75,000 for pre construction services," said the staff presenter (Nick).
Commissioners discussed the size and tempo of the project — the board previously approved a project budget of $82,000,000 — and asked for an updated Gantt chart and a clearer confidence estimate for the timeline to 'shovel in the ground.' Commissioners also flagged interim staffing and space logistics while construction proceeds. Commissioner Fahey, who moved the motion, described the review as thorough and noted a letter of recommendation from the architect; the motion passed by voice vote.
