Residents describe recurring sewage backups at Brandedale Estates, call them a biohazard

Multiple residents described recurring sewage surfacing in yards and near playgrounds at Brandedale Estates, said MDH inspections did not act on photo evidence and urged stronger responses including soil testing and follow‑up inspections.
Several Brandedale Estates residents told the Carver County Board that sewer lines in the park back up repeatedly and that the county should press for more thorough inspections and cleanup.
"There are certainly could be more of these places given the size of the park," said Kelly Riddle, who said residents sent photos of three sites showing sewage on the surface and that MDH only addressed one of them. Riddle called chronic sewer backups a "biohazard," noting children play nearby and neighbors cannot open windows because of the smell.
Resident Josh Powell described a large manhole behind his garage that has surfaced sewage multiple times and said maintenance responses have been limited to temporary fixes. "I have emailed the MDH guy that does the inspections," Powell said, urging MDH or the county to inspect before or after maintenance so residents can be confident the problem is resolved and to consider soil testing.
