Teachers tentatively agree; classified staff raise maintenance, staffing and classification concerns

The Teachers Association president said the bargaining team reached a tentative agreement that would be submitted to members for ratification later in the week, and thanked the board and district bargaining team for engaging in “thoughtful dialogue.”
The California School Employees Association chapter president, speaking at length, raised multiple operational concerns: the nutrition‑services consultant not meeting needs, a single carpenter carrying a backlog of roughly 120 work orders, the elimination of support office positions and requests to reclassify and fairly compensate maintenance secretaries and other classified staff. CSEA asked the district to hire and retain classified staff rather than repeatedly outsourcing routine work.
CSEA also flagged negotiations items including data clerk workdays and step increases, and urged clearer communication and updated job descriptions. The chapter president said a recent meeting with interim superintendent Tanya Magana left her feeling "heard and validated," but several long‑standing issues remain on the association’s list.
