The Norwalk‑La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education on Feb. 23 appointed Becky Langenwalter as board vice president after a nomination, acceptance and a roll call vote that the board recorded as passing unanimously.
Becky Langenwalter accepted the nomination and told the board she was “humbled” to serve. “I do happily accept this role. I am humbled,” she said, later noting district resources and scale: “we have… over $300,000,000 a year to educate our 14,000 students.”
Board President Dr. Cancio opened nominations for the vice‑president post and a board member nominated Langenwalter. A motion was made and seconded and the board approved the appointment; the motion was recorded in the meeting as passing 6‑0. The board then invited Langenwalter to the dais and she thanked members for the honor.
In the same procedural segment, the board announced a vacancy in Trustee Area 6 and opened applications for a provisional appointment from Monday, Feb. 23 through March 13; applications will be vetted at a special Board meeting on Saturday, March 14 and selected candidates will be invited for public interviews at the March 23 meeting.
The appointment fills an internal leadership role among board officers; the board did not record individual member vote names in the transcript beyond the final tally.
