Neighborhood group urges developer to preserve informal trails near 88 Elm Street

During public comment on the pre-application for 88 Elm Street, Jeff Scott of the Pathways Committee welcomed the development but asked the applicant to preserve unofficial footpaths children use between adjacent apartments and the parking lot. "Just don't destroy them if you can," Scott said, adding that the children currently play there and have created several shortcuts through the trees.
Applicant representatives said they had received photos and would review the route and impacts during the site walk; the board encouraged the applicant to be conscious of existing informal connections and to consider whether a passive open-space treatment of the wetland area could accommodate continued access. The request was recorded as a non-binding public comment to be considered during final design.
