The Mifflin County Board of Commissioners on Monday adopted a proclamation urging eligible residents to donate blood amid a national shortage identified by the American Red Cross.
Chair (unnamed) read the proclamation, which cited the Red Cross' declaration of a national blood supply crisis and warned that the organization has less than one day of type O positive blood available. The proclamation urged residents to schedule appointments through the American Red Cross app or by phone and encouraged civic groups and businesses to promote drives.
Gary Langsdale, a Red Cross volunteer and member of the Central Pennsylvania board of directors, thanked the commissioners and listed multiple upcoming local drives in Mifflin County, including events in Reedsville, Lewistown, Burnham and Belleville. "Anyone who donates blood within the month of August will receive a $20 Amazon gift card," Langsdale said.
The proclamation was adopted by voice vote; commissioners posed for a photo following the action. The county will share Red Cross scheduling information with residents through the organization's website and local notices.
