Several members of the public addressed the board during the meeting, raising issues ranging from special-education training and technology support to interdistrict permits and community programs.
Teacher Carrie Vaughn thanked the board for a swift contract settlement and said, "Receiving our COLA we are owed is a positive gesture toward restoring the faith we once had in this district." She also pressed administrators on principal evaluations and called for a clearer plan to restore the district’s technology department and site-based tech training.
Yvonne Marquez asked the board to expedite an interdistrict permit appeal for her son Benjamin so he can continue with his peers at Granada Middle School, citing East Whittier City School District’s firm deadline for late submissions. Other speakers praised the Coton (Coats) Foundation professional development and recounted student fundraising and charity work at Norwalk High.
The board acknowledged the comments, confirmed the CAC is open to all parents and scheduled follow-ups as appropriate.
