Midyear LCAP: attendance and achievement indicators improve, trustees ask for deeper school-level data

The district presented its midyear Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) update and fiscal snapshot.
Director Marco Sanchez highlighted that LCFF supplemental/concentration funding totals about $42.5 million and that the district had spent roughly $2.8 million of budgeted LCAP funds by midyear. Sanchez reported midyear attendance at 94.4% (about 2.2 percentage points higher than last year), chronic absenteeism at 15.1% (down from prior outcomes), and suspension rate at 1.1%. He also summarized assessment "met/exceeded" percentages: ELA 49.5% (increase), math 36.32% (increase) and science 31.01%.
Board members welcomed the gains but repeatedly asked for more granular data disaggregated by site, grade and subgroup so trustees could better target resources. Several trustees pressed for a follow-up study session focused on LCAP data, more transparent spending-by-site reports, and proposals for targeted interventions for low-performing sites such as El Camino continuation high school. Marco and interim superintendent Miss Magana said staff will convene additional feedback sessions and return with deeper breakdowns and planned revisions ahead of the annual LCAP approvals in June 2026.
