Summary

City staff presented results from the inaugural Barbecue Music Fest at Oso Viejo Community Park and recommended extending the promoter agreement for two years so the vendor could recoup investment and test viability. Resident Tom Moore, who lives less than 1,500 feet from the site, asked that the city restrict similar events near adjacent homes for two years to give neighbors time to assess impacts; he said he supported the event but was concerned about noise and duration (multi-day festival running until 8–9 p.m.).
Mark Nicks, director of recreation and community services, told the council the city used Placer AI estimates to calculate attendance at "just around 10,000, a little under 10,000 people," and staff estimated gross receipts at approximately $140,000 with the contractor paying 10% to the city plus parking and sponsorship revenue. After questions about resident impacts and nonprofit participation, the council moved, seconded and approved the recommendation; the consent agenda and event agreement passed unanimously.
