District transportation report: six routes, ~130 riders; special-education priority and grant-seeking for electrification

Marla (S17), director of maintenance operations and transportation, told the board the annual home-to-school transportation plan must be updated by April 1 and presented the district’s current operations: six routes serving roughly 130 students on average with priority given to IEP transportation needs. She said the district also provides bus passes for McKinney-Vento (unhoused) students and receives about $118,000 in reimbursement for those passes.
Trustees asked whether the district could expand service to reduce traffic and emissions and whether the fleet has been electrified. Staff said the district has not yet purchased electric buses but has installed charging infrastructure to enable electrification if funding becomes available; they said the district is actively looking for grants. The board discussed safety and the possibility of pilot routes to reduce traffic near campuses but no expansion plan was approved at the meeting.
