Several speakers promoted Love for Schools Day on Oct. 11 and the South Coast Conservatory Danceathon (Oct. 5), noting the Danceathon generated about $39,000 for scholarships last year. Others used public comment to criticize the city’s decision to post a tribute to Charlie Kirk on an electronic billboard, saying the post politicized a city space. Speakers urged the council either to postpone the Prop 50 resolution to allow more public education or to address the ballot measure now; council ultimately moved ahead with the resolution opposing Prop 50 later in the meeting.
