Midvale reviews drought contingency plan aligned with regional water district

Bryton Mecham presented a proposed Drought Response Plan required of Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District wholesale customers; the plan outlines staged actions (Levels 0–4) that escalate conservation measures based on supply and demand indicators. The objective, Mecham said, is to reduce water use during drought while minimizing harm to residents and essential services.

Council Member Bryant Brown urged prioritizing commercial conservation and said he wanted the city park to remain green even if cutbacks were required elsewhere: "Commercial properties should be the first in line to conserve water," Brown said. Council Member Denece Mikolash asked for more outreach to homeowners associations; staff noted the city adopted Water Efficiency Standards several months earlier and would consider policy options beyond the minimum standards. The council approved placing the item on the June 3 consent agenda for formal adoption steps.
