The Midvale City Council voted unanimously June 17 to adopt Resolution No. 2025-R-36, formally designating Midvale an 'A Bolder Way Forward' city and signaling local support for a statewide initiative aimed at improving outcomes for women, girls and families. Mariah Hill, Administrative Services Director, presented the measure and noted the city's leadership role in Salt Lake County.
"A Bolder Way Forward is a statewide initiative that aims to improve the lives of women, girls, and families across Utah," Mariah Hill said, citing statewide studies on areas such as safety, education and leadership representation. The resolution affirms the city's commitment to collaborate with the initiative on policy and programming. Council Member Denece Mikolash and Council Member Heidi Robinson expressed support during discussion, and Mayor Dustin Gettel thanked staff for bringing the proposal forward. The motion to adopt was moved by Council Member Bonnie Billings and seconded by Council Member Heidi Robinson; the roll-call vote was unanimous (five ayes).
The resolution frames the designation as a platform for local action on issues the staff memo described as persistent challenges—domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse and low levels of women’s leadership representation in politics and business. City leaders noted past local examples of women’s leadership and said the designation will be used to coordinate city efforts with the statewide coalition. No amendments or conditions were attached to the adoption; the resolution will be posted with city records.
