$300,000 industrial-board contribution sparks debate over use of county funds

I need sewer and water out there, and I need a pad so that I have something to show prospects which are showing up." She said previous county match money leveraged larger outside grants and that proceeds from property sales are typically reinvested in further development rather than returned to the county general fund.
Budget staff and the mayor clarified that some of the dollars discussed were grant matches rather than direct property-tax revenue, and they described prior examples where small county investments were leveraged into larger projects. Commissioners expressed concern about accountability, transparency and near-term returns and sought clearer documentation about source, restriction and expected deliverables for the contribution.
