Mission Viejo honors two Marines from Camp Pendleton

Mayor Reich opened the Oct. 14 meeting with awards recognizing two Marines from the 1st Marine Division's headquarters battalion at Camp Pendleton. The council presented certificates of commendation and $150 gift cards to Corporal Jamari Millerson and, on behalf of Lance Corporal Sawyer Carleton (deployed), to Corporal Torres.
Gail Wood of the Marine Corps Adoption Committee thanked the council for its support. ‘‘We truly, truly could not do everything that we do without you,’’ she said. 1st Sergeant Covington described the battalion—about 1,175 marines and sailors—and said Millerson was selected from a large pool for an NCO honor and is one of a small number being considered for meritorious promotion.
Mayor Reich invited council members and the adoption committee for a photo and said the city will recognize the Marines on its community bulletin boards. The recognition was presented as part of the meeting's ceremonial items before the council moved to proclamations and business.
