Mission Viejo begins Cal Fire-funded fuel-modification work; contractor deploys goats for vegetation management

Hill described a contractor-managed goat-grazing program staged near Geronimo Road: more than 200 goats will graze targeted brush inside an 8-foot perimeter fence, with guard dogs and shepherds overseeing the herd; staff said the operation will run for several weeks (roughly six weeks estimated) and has attracted media attention. The council noted the social-media interest and the Orange County Register coverage; staff said the approach is intended to reduce wildfire fuel and is part of the city’s Cal Fire grant efforts.
