Mayor Pro Tem Buckman presented a proclamation declaring September 2025 as Hunger Action Month on behalf of Mayor Robert Reich and the City of Mission Viejo. The proclamation cites local food insecurity and the city’s commitment to partner with the Orange County Hunger Alliance to raise awareness and support food banks.
Alejandro Ablar of 2nd Harvest Food Bank of Orange County accepted the proclamation and highlighted aid totals: he said 2nd Harvest and the Orange County Food Bank distributed roughly 36–37 million pounds of food in the first half of 2025 and that 2nd Harvest feeds about 458,000 individuals per month in the county. “We’re looking for volunteers,” Ablar said, directing residents to feedoc.org for scheduling and donation information. The City thanked the Hunger Alliance for its work and encouraged residents to consider volunteering or donating.
Why this matters: the proclamation formalizes the city’s support for countywide anti-hunger efforts, provides publicity for volunteer opportunities, and signals municipal partnership with nonprofit food systems during a time of elevated need.
