Dr. Youlanda Gibbs, executive director of the nonprofit Palmetto Palace, told Bamberg County Council on May 5 about two free dental-day events aimed at uninsured and underinsured adults.
Dr. Gibbs said the program will take place July 9–10 (registration/X-ray dates) and July 17–18 (treatment dates) at the Orangeburg County Fairgrounds, where organizers will erect a 15,000‑square‑foot tent with roughly 60 dental chairs. "You only need to show up, the services offered are free," Dr. Gibbs said, and attendees must bring identification for registration.
She asked whether Bamberg organizations with buses — county departments, unions, churches or nonprofit partners — could help provide transportation. Dr. Jonathan Goodman pledged the county would make accommodations if vehicles could be arranged and staff were directed to contact Council on Aging Director Kay Clary about possible rides.
Palmetto Palace said the program is a nonprofit effort supported by Representative Gilda Cobb‑Hunter and Solomon Family Dentistry; organizers emphasized the outreach because oral health problems create lost work and school hours.
