The group said they are raising private funding—about $5 million for phase 1—and requested county collaboration on grants, programming support and potential capital-improvement partnership for district improvements around Mud Island. “We are currently doing community outreach and embracing Memphis, Memphis’ creative culture,” Reyes said; the presenters asked the commission to consider partnerships with public schools to expand student access and to consider discounted or free local-access days for county residents.
