Two student fellows who worked with the State Board's student advisory process presented a six-week summary to the board, reporting meetings with six council offices and calling for stronger oversight to ensure access and equity. "These meetings give us valuable feedback on the SAC's recommendations and findings," fellow Logan Thompson told the board, describing conversations about college and career readiness, mental health staffing, school safety specifics and school meal quality.
The students said council staff emphasized the need to ensure existing programs are implemented equitably across LEAs, to increase mental-health personnel in schools, and to center student voice in school-safety and meal-quality reforms. The board thanked the fellows for convening council input and encouraged further student engagement as the board considers graduation-regulation changes and other oversight work.
