Town Manager Ryan Lockwood told the Selectboard he has explored multiple funding routes for a proposed highway garage. He said the USDA Rural Development grant appears out of reach because the town’s median household income was $70,000 in 2024, above the program’s limit. Lockwood said he is pursuing the Northern Borders Commission Timber for Transit program (a 50/50 match when requirements are met) and will apply to senators’ congressional appropriations programs as opportunities arise.
Lockwood said Black River Design quoted around $6,000 to produce a redesign emphasizing domestic wood products and that the town currently has $89,000 in a building fund for the project. He told the board he asked that two design options be prepared—one using interior support columns and one using 20-foot steel beams—to compare cost and operational safety in the truck bays.
