Committee unanimously advances amendments to bicycle and pedestrian master plan

The committee unanimously approved resolution 26‑0703 to amend the Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan, including proposed greenways on Redfield, Vine and Badger streets; an extension of the 10th Street greenway; restoration of the Goose Green Trail; and spot improvements such as rapid flashing beacons at several crossings. Deputy Director Tim Ackland explained the changes are planning recommendations that will guide engineering and Board of Public Works decisions on future capital projects.
Councilmember Sleznicko, the sponsor, stressed the plan is a living document and said the amendments respond to recent DOT street proposals and community requests. Ackland clarified that approving the plan does not approve construction; each project would return for capital budgeting, further community engagement and design approval. "What you're doing is approving the plan, the amendments to the plan itself," Ackland told the committee, adding that actual construction would come back through the capital budget and Board of Public Works process.
Members thanked staff and the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee for their work. The motion to adopt as submitted passed unanimously.
