Council outlines $476,300 in tax-funded priorities including new fire engine and parks money
Summary
City finance staff told the council the proposed tax increase would fund a $281,300 annual set-aside for a replacement fire engine, $100,000 for sidewalks, $150,000 for parks (including $100,000 new), and $45,000 toward the police fleet, totaling about $476,300.

City finance staff presented an impact schedule Aug. 4 showing how proposed incremental property-tax revenue would be allocated if the projected 10.30% increase is realized. The largest item is an annual set-aside of $281,300 for a replacement fire engine, which staff said must be planned several years in advance because of a national backlog in building engines.
Peter Andrew, the city’s financial director, described sidewalk replacement ($100,000 instead of the typical $50,000), parks capital ($150,000 including $100,000 of new money), and $45,000 proposed for the police fleet as the remaining major items in the schedule. "We have to commit to purchasing 1 3 to 4 years in advance," Andrew said of fire engines, noting the lead times and backlog that drive the set-aside approach.
